Harbour Foods Ltd wants to list its shares on the Main Board. Which firm must it appoint to guide it through the listing application?
Main Board Listing Rule 3A.02 requires a new applicant to appoint a sponsor to assist it with its application for listing. Paragraph 17.1(a) of the SFC Code of Conduct applies to sponsors, which are licensed corporations or registered institutions licensed or registered for Type 6 (advising on corporate finance) and permitted to do sponsor work. A Type 4 adviser gives advice on buying and selling securities to investors, a Type 9 firm manages portfolios, and a Type 1 firm deals in securities. None of these is the sponsor role the Listing Rules require. Source: Main Board Listing Rule 3A.02; SFC Code of Conduct para 17.1(a); SFO (Cap. 571) Sch. 5 Pt 1 (as at October 2026).
Thinking any licensed broker can bring a company to market. Only a Type 6 firm permitted to act as sponsor can.
