How to Register for the HKSI LE Exam
Updated · 5 min read
Registering for the Licensing Examination is two separate steps: you enrol and pay for a paper, then you schedule a session. The second step has a deadline, and missing it costs you the whole fee. This guide walks through both, using HKSI’s published policies and dates as checked on hksi.org on 11 October 2026.
Before you enrol
- Confirm which papers you need. Many representatives need Paper 1 only. See which papers you need.
- Pick a target week. Your session must fall within 90 days of enrolling, so enrol when you are four to six weeks from ready, not on day one of study.
- Check your ID. On exam day you need an original, valid government-issued photo ID with an English name that matches your HKSI account. A Mainland Resident Identity Card has no English name and is not accepted; bring a passport or another document on HKSI’s accepted list instead.
Step 1: Create an account and enrol
Enrolment is online through the HKSI Institute Online Portal, which you reach from the hksi.org home page. Create your account with your English name exactly as it appears on your ID.
When you enrol you choose:
- The paper, for example Paper 1, Fundamentals of Securities and Futures Regulation.
- The mode: the HKSI Institute examination centre in Hong Kong, or a global examination centre run by Prometric. Fees differ by mode; see exam fees.
Then you pay. Payment methods are listed on hksi.org. If you need special arrangements for a disability, HKSI asks you to email it on the day you enrol, with supporting evidence.
Enrolling gives you the eStudy Guide for that paper in the Online Portal and the app, free, from enrolment until your exam date.
Step 2: Schedule a session within 90 days
Computer-based sessions are booked through a scheduling platform called ProScheduler. HKSI’s published rules:
| Deadline | Rule |
|---|---|
| Session date | Must fall within 90 days of your enrolment date, unless HKSI specifies otherwise |
| Scheduling deadline | Normally 85 days from enrolment; your exact date shows in the Online Portal or app |
| Missed scheduling deadline | Marked ABSENT; fee not refundable or transferable |
| Seats | First come, first served; the deadline does not guarantee a seat |
ProScheduler shows two weeks of sessions at a time from your chosen start date. If nothing suits, move the search dates forward; you can search up to 90 days from enrolment. Paper 1 runs monthly at the Hong Kong centre, so book early in the window.
After booking you receive a Confirmation of Examination Scheduling email. It states your admission start time. Keep it.
Trap
Changing your plans
| Change | Deadline | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Reschedule (same paper and mode) | Six full days before the session starts; new session within 90 days of enrolment | Free |
| Withdraw | Six full days before the session, or the scheduling deadline if not yet scheduled | Fee refunded minus an HKD500 administration fee |
| Miss the exam or arrive late | None | Marked absent; no reschedule, no refund |
“Six full days” means a session at 11:00 on a Saturday must be changed before 11:00 on the previous Sunday. Withdrawal applications cannot be cancelled once submitted.
The day before
- Re-read your confirmation email for the admission start time and the centre address.
- Pack your original ID and know the last four digits of your registered mobile number or your confirmation number.
- Check hksi.org or the app if a typhoon signal or black rainstorm warning is forecast.
The full checklist is in exam day: what to expect.
Use the 90 days well
Treat the enrolment date as the start of your final stretch. Sit the free mock now, then follow a study schedule that ends in timed mocks a week before your session.
Takeaway
HKSI Prep is an independent study tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by HKSI Institute or the SFC. HKSI updates its policies; read the current versions on hksi.org before you enrol.
